Auditions are being held for The Rocky Horror Show, the outrageous, gloriously theatrical rock musical filled with unforgettable characters, iconic songs, camp, comedy, science fiction, and just the right amount of beautiful chaos.
GENDER-NEUTRAL CASTING
Gender-neutral casting will be in effect for this production.
Performers of all gender identities are encouraged to audition for any role. We are interested in finding performers who capture the personality, energy, humor, sexuality, vulnerability, and theatrical spirit of these characters rather than limiting roles according to the gender of the performer.
SPECIAL CASTING NOTES
ROCKY: While the ability to sing the role is certainly preferred, strong singing ability is not vital to being cast as Rocky. We are particularly interested in physical presence, movement ability, comic instincts, charisma, and someone who can completely commit to the wonderfully bizarre world of the show.
COLUMBIA: Tap dancing is not required for this production. Columbia’s dance break will be staged specifically for the performer cast in the role.
CHARACTERS
FRANK N. FURTER
The magnetic center of the entire strange universe. Frank is theatrical, seductive, commanding, funny, dangerous, temperamental, and utterly convinced that every room belongs to them the moment they enter it. Frank has created Rocky and presides over the castle and its inhabitants with enormous charisma and very little regard for conventional morality.
This role requires a performer with major stage presence, strong musical instincts, fearless comedic commitment, and the ability to move from outrageous comedy to genuine vulnerability.
BRAD MAJORS
Recently engaged to Janet and initially the picture of buttoned-up respectability. Brad enters Frank’s world convinced that logic, good manners, and common sense will somehow get the couple safely through the evening.
They do not.
Brad’s carefully controlled world begins unraveling almost immediately. The role needs someone who can play sincerity without making Brad dull and who has strong comic timing as the character’s confidence and conventional worldview gradually collapse. Brad also has significant solo material, including “Damn It Janet” and “Once in a While.”
JANET WEISS
Brad’s newly engaged sweetheart, who begins the story innocent, conventional, nervous, and completely unprepared for what awaits at the castle.
Janet undergoes one of the biggest transformations in the show. Curiosity and desire begin replacing fear and inhibition, ultimately leading to a Janet who is far more liberated than the person who first walked through the castle door.
Needs strong comedic instincts, vocal confidence, vulnerability, and the willingness to go wholeheartedly on Janet’s rather spectacular journey.
RIFF RAFF
Frank’s strange and unsettling servant.
Riff Raff initially appears to be a creepy but dutiful handyman, although it becomes increasingly clear that there is considerably more going on beneath the surface. Riff Raff is Magenta’s sibling and ultimately reveals a very different agenda from Frank’s.
Looking for a distinctive performer with strong character instincts, physicality, vocal ability, and the ability to be funny while remaining just a little unnerving.
MAGENTA
Frank’s servant and Riff Raff’s sibling.
Magenta is mysterious, dry, sensual, sardonic, and often seems to be watching the insanity around the castle with considerably more awareness than everyone realizes. Like Riff Raff, Magenta’s true loyalties become increasingly important as the evening progresses. The script ultimately reveals the pair’s extraterrestrial connection and their intention to return to Transylvania.
Looking for bold character work, excellent musical instincts, and someone who knows how to make stillness every bit as interesting as movement.
COLUMBIA
Bright, eccentric, excitable, emotional, and gloriously unpredictable.
Columbia has a complicated history with Frank and Eddie, and beneath all the sparkle is someone whose feelings have been repeatedly bruised. Eventually Columbia reaches a breaking point and openly confronts Frank about the way people have been used and discarded.
This role needs energy, comedy, heart, movement ability, and a performer unafraid to go big.
For this production, Columbia does NOT need to tap dance.
ROCKY
Frank’s newly created “perfect” human being.
Rocky has literally just entered the world and is trying to understand it while almost everyone around him has their own plans for what he should be. The character combines innocence, sexuality, physical comedy, bewilderment, and growing independence. The script describes Rocky as only hours old during the Floor Show.
Singing ability is preferred but is not vital to casting this role.
We are especially interested in performers with:
- Strong physical presence
- Movement ability
- Charisma
- Comic instincts
- Comfort with physical storytelling
- Complete commitment to the role
Do not decide not to audition for Rocky because you don’t consider yourself a singer or don’t have the “perfect” body. We want to see you!
EDDIE
The former delivery boy whose dramatic return turns Frank’s carefully controlled celebration upside down.
Eddie is rebellious, impulsive, dangerous, sexual, and pure rock-and-roll energy. His major moment, “Hot Patootie,” should feel like someone has kicked open the doors and suddenly started an entirely different show.
The role requires tremendous personality, musical energy, and the ability to make an enormous impact with relatively limited stage time. Eddie is later revealed to be Dr. Scott’s nephew.
DR. EVERETT SCOTT
May be doubled with Eddie
Brad’s former science teacher and Eddie’s uncle.
Dr. Scott arrives investigating what is happening at the castle and immediately finds considerably more than expected. The character provides wonderful opportunities for dry comedy, heightened seriousness, and eventual participation in the madness.
Looking for an excellent character actor with strong comic timing and musical ability.
THE NARRATOR
Our guide through Brad and Janet’s increasingly bizarre evening.
The Narrator speaks directly to the audience, framing the action and frequently commenting upon it with wonderfully heightened seriousness. The role needs someone with exceptional command of an audience, strong timing, confidence, personality, and the ability to make language itself entertaining.
This performer needs to be comfortable breaking the fourth wall and interacting directly with an audience.
THE USHERETTE
May be doubled with Magenta and/or Columbia
The performer who opens the evening with “Science Fiction/Double Feature” and helps establish the wonderfully warped cinematic world of the show before the story even begins. The Usherette returns at the end, providing a musical bookend to the evening.
A fantastic role for a performer with vocal personality, presence, and the ability to connect immediately with an audience. The script specifically opens with the Usherette and the Phantoms accompanying the number.
PHANTOMS
The Phantoms are far more than background ensemble members.
They welcome the audience, provide vocals, create environments, become part of the physical world of the castle, support musical numbers, and help propel the story from one strange moment into the next. In the script, they even physically create the wedding arch through which Brad and Janet enter and serve as backing singers during several musical sequences.
We are looking for performers with a wide variety of strengths, including:
- Singing
- Dancing
- Character work
- Physical theater
- Comedy
- Movement
- Fearless individuality
You do not have to be a traditional “triple threat.” Interesting people make an interesting castle.
ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
Opening Night: Thursday, October 29, 2026
Rehearsals: Four evenings per week, generally 6:00–10:00 PM. Not everyone will be called for every rehearsal.
Casting: Gender-neutral
Because of the nature of The Rocky Horror Show, performers should expect mature themes, sexual humor, suggestive staging, physical contact, and potentially revealing costumes.
Any intimate or sexualized staging will be specifically choreographed, communicated, and rehearsed with clear boundaries and consent.
