In a quiet Pennsylvania farmhouse, siblings Vanya and Sonia find their routine lives disrupted by their glamorous movie-star sister, Masha, and her much-younger companion, Spike. Add a prophetic cleaning woman and an eager young actress, and the result is a comedy that’s equal parts absurd, heartfelt, and hilariously relatable.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
VANYA – 50s, living in Bucks County. Resigned to his life, more or less, at least compared to Sonia.
SONIA – His adopted sister, early 50s, living with him in Bucks County. Discontent, upset, regretful.
MASHA – His sister, 50s, glamorous and successful actress who goes gallivanting around the world.
SPIKE – An aspiring actor, 29 or younger, Masha’s new companion. Sexy, self-absorbed, but otherwise outgoing and friendly.
NINA – Lovely, sincere would-be actress, early 20s, visiting her aunt and uncle next door. Star struck, earnest, and energetic.
CASSANDRA – Cleaning lady and soothsayer, any age, any race.
CASTING NOTES:
-Seeking adult actors of all experience levels
-The sibling roles (Vanya, Sonia, Masha) are open to performers in their 40s *and* 50s
-Spike: early–late 20s; must be very comfortable with physicality and body confidence
